Y Shape Pass and Move
Dimensions: 40x 40 Yard square, one goal. One goalkeeper with a ball, one player on a cone 15 yards out from goalkeeper, two cones a further 15 yards down field from the cone in the middle creating a ‘Y’ shape. A player is positioned on either point of the ‘Y’.
Two lines of cones placed either side of the middle cone to act as static defenders.
How to: Players must pass the soccer ball and follow their pass
First player passes into the player on the middle cone and follows the pass to the middle cone. The player in the middle who receives the ball must turn and pass to either one of the two players standing at angles further downfield, again following the pass to its target. The player on the point of the Y who received the ball must dribble downfield taking the ball around the static defender before taking a shot on goal. They then join the back of the first line by the goal
Coaching Points: Pass accurately. Consider your target and focus on technique when passing. Follow your pass quickly
Shooting players attack the defender directly and time your move well in order to create space. Take the shot as soon as you see an opportunity
Progressions: Add passive defenders to the line of cones (be careful not to make it too difficult to round the defender, the emphasis here is making room for the shot)
