Moves in Twos
Dimensions: 30 x 45 yards played length ways, one goal at either end. Players in groups of two lined up by either goalpost. Split groups evenly at opposite ends for better rotation and more shots.
How to: Players progress up the field by passing the ball back and forth to each other before taking a shot on goal when close enough.
The next team go as soon as the team has shot on the goal they are next to. One teams moves from one end to the other, the other team moves back down the other way as soon as the field is clear.
Coaching Points: There is no pressure on the players while they move down the field, encourage players to try to vary their range of passing. For example short one-two’s, through balls, lofted passes and crosses.
The objective here is to get comfortable making an opportunity when moving in on goal. Create a safe learning environment, encourage players to attempt difficult chances and experiment with off the ball movement and link up play. The move creativity is encouraged and shown; the better the session will be for players’ development.
Progressions: Add a goalkeeper; players must now keep track of the goals they have scored. This can be turned into a competition later.
Set a time limit: Players must now treat the move as a counter attack and must finish their chance as soon as possible whilst still making 2 passes.
