Losing A defender- approaching Goal
Dimensions: Start line 25 Yards from goal with a 3 Yard line 18 Yards from goal. One player starts by the line of three 18 yards from goal, One player starts a line with soccer balls on the cone 25 yards from goal.
How to: Player 1 with the soccer ball passes into player 2 eighteen yards from goal, player 2 passes the ball back to player 1 before moving down the line of cones. Player 1 then plays a through ball pass for player one to control and shoot on goal.
Player two takes up the position player 1 started off at and the drill continues.
Coaching Points: Player one should look to bend their run so they can see both the goal and player 2 to see where they will play the pass.
Player 2 must aim to release the pass at the right time. This could be the difference between and offside call and a goal in a game situation.
Weight of pass- Passes need to be into players feet, the through ball must be weighted correctly so it doesn’t slow the attacking player down and not too heavy so the ball might roll though to the goalkeeper.
Progressions: Set up a line on the opposite side so players must approach from the other side too.
