Dribble and layoff with a shot
Dimensions: place two cones 5 yards away from each goal post. These are the starting positions.
Place another cone 18 yards away directly in front of both start cones. Position cones randomly in between the cones as obstacles. (See animation for exact placement) Adjust the dimensions based on player ability.
How to: One player goes at a time, play alternates from side to side. One player dribbles up through the cones and passes the ball gently into space before they reach the 18 yard cone; they loop around the cone and shoot the ball first time before it stops rolling. They then join the back of the other line so to practice shots with the left and right foot.
Coaching Points: Be creative when dribbling the ball through the cones while maintaining close control.
Give yourself every chance to make the shot on goal by playing a decent layoff pass to run on to.
Shooting technique, keep your head over the ball, decide whether you are going to go for power or placement. Plant your foot next to the ball and strike cleanly through the line of the ball, keeping your shot low.
Progressions: Try this first without a goalkeeper. Allow the players to get used to hitting the back of the net. This will raise their confidence when facing a goalkeeper.
