Creating space for a Shot
Dimensions: Start players roughly 35 yards from goal (adjust the dimensions based on what you want to achieve) Place several lines of cones as obstacles to dribble through. These lines should simulate defenders and are to be approached and dribbled around.
How to: Players must dribble their soccer ball through the cones and create enough of a gap to take a shot on goal; shots that go over the cones do not count as these would strike the defender in the game. Create two lines and have players attempt an approach at goal from two different angles. Create more lines if necessary.
Coaching Points: Try to encourage players to look up to see where they can move so they will have a clear sight of goal.
Move as quickly as you can through the session while maintaining good ball control. Imagine running at and committing defenders and taking the shot when the opportunity is created.
Follow in on any shots in case of a rebound
Progressions: Have two players go at the same time, it's now a race to get through the cones and get a clear shot on goal.
