Dimensions:35 x 30 yard area played length ways with a goal at either end.
One start line at each end 6 yards away from the goalpost (the field should look like a mirror image when viewed from the other start line.)
A supply of soccer balls by each goalpost.
How to: One player advances towards goal checking their shoulder for a through ball from the next player in line behind them, they must control the through ball and take a shot on goal.
Player then collects their ball and moves to the back of the opposite line. This drill should have two goals and a line by either goal to ensure plenty of shots and good rotation.
The next player in line can set off as soon as the goal is clear of players.
Coaching Points: Check your shoulder for the through ball, arc your run if necessary to allow you to see the area you wish to attack and also the delivery of the pass.
The importance of a good first touch, try to control the ball into your stride, a poor first touch will slow you down and the attacking impetus will be lost.
Remember ABC’s of shooting:
(A)djust your body position to strike the ball you receive
(B)asic shooting technique- head over the ball, placement over power in certain situations.
(C)reativity- Be clever with the finish, aim for where the goalkeeper won’t be able to reach, stay composed when 1 v 1 with the keeper and take the chance when you see it.
