1 v 1 Attacking the last Defender
Dimensions: 40 x 30 yard area played length ways with a goal at either end.
Place a line down the middle creating a half way line. Create 4 lines of players, attacking players start by the goal post, defending players start on the half way line with a supply of soccer balls. See animation for exact placement of players.
How to: The midfield line creates the same drill twice to avoid lines and ensure players are getting as many turns as possible.
A defender with the ball plays a diagonal pass into the attacking player before moving into play to defend the goal furthest away from the attacker.
The attacker takes on the defender and attempts to score a goal. Once play has concluded, the attacker and defender switch positions, play resumes immediately with the opposite defender passing into the other attacker and the attacker attempting to score in the opposite goal.
Coaching Points: This is an attacking drill, encourage your players to take on the defender quickly and take positive steps to try to get a shot on goal.
Create space for the shot and take it when the opportunity arises.
Note the differences between dribbling and running with the ball
Progressions: copy to defending
