3v1 Triangles with Cones
Dimensions: 8 x 8 Yard Square marked by one cone in each corner. 3 Passing Players occupy 3 or the 4 cones, one defender in the middle of the square.
How to: The passing team must keep the ball away from the defender by passing the ball around; each pass must be to a cone though. If the ball is won by the defender, the defender joins the passing team and the player who lost the ball becomes the defender.
Coaching Points: Make sure the three passing players are working together well, there will always be one free cone, move to it if it gives your team mate an easier pass.
As simple as this drill seems, the whole game of soccer can be broken down into situations like this, stress the importance of giving your team mate options, this will ensure you keep possession of the ball.
Pass to the cones: there might be an easier pass on, but play the ball to the cones, this will force good angles and good use of space.
