Short/Long passing through Defenders
Dimensions: Two 20 x 10 Yard areas side by side with a 5 Yard gap between the two
How to: 1 passing team per area with one defender in each, a passive defender occupies the middle section; passing teams must move the ball around to make space to pass through and switch play to their team mates on the other side.
A point is scored each time the passing teams successfully switch play. Rotate defensive duties and teams.
Coaching Points: Creating space will allow more successful passing. Make sure you are an option for the person with the ball so they may pass the ball away successfully.
Move the ball quickly when space allows, but do not force a pass if it isn’t there to be played.
The team in the other square need to stay alert to the play and ready to receive the ball. Quick thinking will allow you to set yourself up for making the passes. Both teams are working together to create successful passing sequences.
